Ronnie Owen's band 'the Grand Dukes' are a critically acclaimed touring band and play anywhere from funky little blues bars, where the music was invented to major blues festivals. Its rare when a group is able to combine so many wide-ranging styles of music from traditional and modern blues, to roots-rock and R&B, with some original tunes and a little funk thrown in for good measure. Drawing from a number of musical backgrounds and styles, Blues Flash had its origins from a legendary weekly jam session, where several of the members met, at a now defunct blues club in Richmond, VA. When you catch Blues Flash live, its hard to tell just who is having more fun, the audience or the band. One thing is for sure, its always a party going on when Blues Flash is in the house!
Still Standing featuring Linwood Taylor
Linwood Lee Taylor is bringing his guitar to town with Still Standing. Linwood is tuned in to Howlin’ Wolf, Jimi Hendrix, and Muddy Waters, as well as Freddy King, Albert King and Albert Collins just to name a few. In fact, Taylor often played with Collins on the East Coast and treats fans to “Frosty”, a Collins tune he played with its creator. Not many Blues artists can say they’ve recorded with H.R. of the Bad Brains as well as performed with Albert Collins, but Taylor can. This talented Bluesman knows how to play some bare-bones acoustic guitar, too!
Big Boy Little Band
The Big Boy LIttle Band (BBLB) plays blues for grownups...the deep, deep blues. The kind of blues you used to hear on a distant radio station broadcasting from somewhere down south, late at night. The kind of blues where you wake up early in the morning and all you can think of is your lover and you wonder, “where’d you go”. The kind of blues that makes you want to go somewhere and dance or shout or just be alive. Those kinds of blues.
After a standing ovation following her performance at the packed Strathmore Music Center during the recent Woodstock tribute, Patty Reese’s attitude with soulful expression and her powerhouse pipes proved a match for the likes of Janis Joplin and other prolific and important artists. Other comparisons have been made, that Reese claims as influences, including Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. Reese is winner of eleven WAMMIES including Album of the Year, Artist of the Year and Roots Rock Vocalist!
Born and raised on the south side of Chicago by his Grandmother; he was given his childhood nickname, Biscuit, after always being in the kitchen and underfoot while she was trying to cook. Growing up at Grandma’s house also gave Biscuit his love and appreciation for music, as gospel and soul were played in the home on a regular basis. David "Buscuit" Miller delivers a "Funky Blues Stew" designed to get a club dancin'. Buscuit delivers bounding energy and funk that is loaded with charisma. He also has "one of the best smiles in the blues!"
Fast Eddie & The Slowpokes
